Movie Review – Warcraft
I gotta admit that halfway through “Warcraft”, I was pretty damn puzzled as to what the hell was going on.

Ep. 154: Sequel week continues with two new franchise “seconds” – The Conjuring 2 and Now You See Me 2. The Movie Guys cover them all as well as franchise “first” Warcraft. Sitting in the whole show is writer/producer Brian Bradley, the week of the debut of his new TV series, Uncle Buck, based on the classic film.
In most cases of a remake, you’re being subjected to the cynical trappings of a money-grab. And despite the sad corpses of failed remakes that litter the ground in Hollywood, if ONE hits big, then it’s open season to greenlight more…
A long time ago we used to tell ourselves the kind of stories these two shows are portraying. The mythologies, legends and stories of gods and witches, ghosts and creatures otherworldly, that magic and glamour of the supernatural.
Ep. 153: A longtime guest wish is fulfilled as ’80s icon Diane Franklin of the legendary films “Better Off Dead…” and “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” joins the Movie Guys in studio! Plus, previews of new films “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping”, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows” and “Me Before You”.
Ah, screw it. I enjoyed this movie.
Ep. 152: The big holiday weekend sees the release of two huge summer films, X-Men: Apocalypse and Alice Through the Looking Glass, and The Movie Guys are all over them both with full, patented comedy previews. Then guest Damion Poitier, seen in theaters right now in Captain America: Civil War joins the show to discuss being involved in some of the coolest films and TV shows of the last fifteen years.
There’s a new horror auteur in town and he goes by the name of Mike Flanagan.
Despite the pedigree on display in the new of-the-moment drama, Money Monster, the whole doesn’t equal the sum of its parts.
Ep. 151: This week The Showcast is live from Whedonopolis, the all-things-Joss-Whedon fan convention in Los Angeles where Paul, Karen, Adam & Bart find time to preview new releases Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, The Nice Guys and The Angry Birds Movie. They are joined the whole show by A Christmas Story and Transformers actor Zack Ward, at the fest to talk about his two-episode arc on Whedon’s Dollhouse and more. The Movie Guys nab him to talk about his directorial debut, Restoration.
A wonderful celebration of independent filmmaking that provides a platform for the unique voice that captures our imaginations and gives us hope for the kind of movies that do more than just entertain.
Ep. 150: The Movie Guys celebrate 150 episodes and three years in their studio, The Admiral’s Club with special guest Paul Bunnell, director of The Ghastly Love of Johnny X. Also, previews of Money Monster and The Darkness with a very in-depth look at what it means when a film is ‘based on a true story’.
No movie franchise could possibly be this good, this consistent, this adept at getting everything right, time and time again. And yet…
Adam Witt calls into Justin Kaufmann’s The Download on Chicago’s WGN to discuss Captain America: Civil War. But soon after it’s up to Paul Preston to deliver the goods on this superhero blockbuster.
Ep. 149: Only one new film this week, but it’s a good one as The Movie Guys (mostly Adam) gear up for Captain America: Civil War, joined by co-star of the new NetFlix series Love, Chris Witaske. Also, a glimpse at Ken Burns’ Captain American: The Civil War, and two programming reps (Chris Cullen and Melody McCune) from the all-Joss-Whedon fan convention Whedonopolis 2016 talk about the upcoming event and The Movie Guys’ role in it!
The release of “Batman v. Superman” has come and gone. Sadly, I was greatly disappointed in the movie. And, of course, keeping with this parallel, it makes me fear for “No Man’s Sky”.
Hardcore Henry has come and pretty much gone from theaters and you neglected to take in this truly unique moviegoing experience. You look sad. You think I’m attacking you.
Two competition films in particular captured my heart and stirred my soul as they did with most of their audience.
Liza Johnson’s new film “Elvis & Nixon” explores this powerhouse meeting, within its every right to speculate as much as it cares to.
Ep. 148: Four new movies to burn through this week as The Movie Guys bring you their patented previews of Green Room, Mother’s Day, Ratchet & Clank & Keanu. Then special guest Allan Trautman hits the studio to talk about his work as a digital puppeteer on “The Jungle Book” as well as a look at his whole career as an actor and puppeteer on movies like Babe and Return of the Living Dead.
A multi-million dollar risk that pretty much hits all the right notes.
Once again, this happens to be one of the friendliest film festivals one can attend with both talent and audience having a great appreciation for one another.
Ep. 147: This special edition of The Movie Showcast delivers up a sampling of sketches, games and bits from 2015 including popular recurring segments like “Karen’s Birthdays” and the opening “Attention”. Part Two includes special guests like Drew Boudreau, Jeffrey Baldinger, The Boobé Sisters, Glenn Morshower & more!
From the very first frame of “Green Room”, the audience can tell this is not going to be just your ordinary thriller.
I Saw the Light gets stuck in the musical biopic rut early and often.
Ep.145: Great guest month continues as long-time comic actor Ian Gomez joins The Movie Guys in studio to discuss his new film Always Worthy, and finally someone asks him what HIS family is like. Plus, previews of new films Hardcore Henry and The Boss.
The title really says it all.
Showcast Episode 144: Everything is staying out of the way of “Batman v. Superman”, so The Movie Guys preview one limited release film, “Everybody Wants Some”, then they make up a few. Plus, a round of “in theaters now…still” and guest Jimmy Carrane of the Improv Nerd podcast sits in the whole show for some in-depth talk about improv and movies.
We can’t be too picky with our car movies because we love them despite their flaws, but these movies exemplify a genre bias.
Snyder’s latest comic book folly is like an Electrolux Vacuum, it practically sucks all the joy of watching a super hero movie.
“Zootopia”’s main character, Judy Hopps, a small-but-feisty country bunny trying to make it on the big city police force, is an inspiration.
THE BATMAN MOVIES…AND THE BATMAN VIDEO GAMES…REVIEWED…AT THE SAME TIME!!! (I KNOW, RIGHT?!?)
Showcast Episode 143: “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” is FINALLY here, and The Movie Guys give up a full preview, including a superhero celebrity roast. Plus, previews of “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2”, “I See the Light” and a great conversation with “Deadpool” and “Zombieland” writer Rhett Reese. All done before a live studio audience!

Then filmmakers Dennis Hauck and Matt Miller hit The Admiral’s Club to talk about the challenges of making their ambitious film, “Too Late”.
The sum of the efforts of all this talent makes for a wildly enjoyable movie.
It’s another Tina Fey vehicle, but certainly a different go-round for the comedy legend-in-the-making.
Showcast Episode 141: Jokes, jokes and more jokes rain down on The Admiral’s Club as previews of “10 Cloverfield Lane”, “The Brothers Grimsby” and “The Young Messiah” come fast and furious.
